Traditional Latin Masses Return to San Francisco Archdiocese

Sunday March 2nd, 2008 (Laetare Sunday) will mark the 1st public Sunday Mass according to the extra-ordinary form offered in the San Francisco, CA archdiocese, in many, many years.

The Mass will be offered 11:30AM at the Holy Rosary chapel of St. Vincent's School for Boys, One St. Vincent Drive, San Rafael,CA (94903) by the Rev. Father William Young.

From Highway 101 take the Marinwood/St. Vincent's Drive exit (#457). Turn right at the stop sign and proceed East along St. Vincent's Drive toward the Bay. The chapel is 2/10's of a mile down on St. Vincent's Drive.

Also, 7pm every 1st Friday of the month, Fr. Lawrence Goode, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church in East Palo Alto will offer a Mass according to the extra-ordinary form at the parish, 1425 Bay Road. The parish phone # is 650-322-2152.

The intention for the March 7th, 2008, First Friday Mass is the repose of the soul of Msgr. John J. Sweeny, pastor emeritus of Our Lady of Peace Shrine in Santa Clara. March 7th, 2008 will be the two-year anniversary of Monsignor's passing. Monsignor Sweeny had offered a monthly Traditional Latin Mass at Our Lady of Peace from 1994 to 2004. His prayers and influence continue to benefit those strongly attached to the traditional usage of the Roman Rite.
