In a X post dated August 17, 2025, weeks before his death, Kirk said: “It’s all about Jesus.” Indeed, Kirk knew that the point about his political activism, his patriotism, his love for his family, was ultimately about the One who created him – none other than Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us all re-double our prayers for the repose of Kirk’s soul, and for the welfare of his bereaved family.
Following Kirk’s death, tributes from all over the world poured in.
President Trump stated: “In honour of Charlie Kirk, a truly Great American Patriot, I am ordering all American Flags throughout the United States lowered to Half Mast until Sunday evening at 6 PM.”
Likewise, the US First Lady, Melania Trump, said that Kirk “should serve as a symbolic reminder that compassionate awareness elevates family, love, and country”.
“Charlie’s children will be raised with stories instead of memories, photographs instead of laughter, and silence where their father’s voice should have echoed, Melania added, in remarks cited by Sky News.
“We need more MEN like Charlie—men who love Jesus, love their wives, lead their families, stand for truth, and are willing to put their own lives on the line for the sake of God and what’s right.”
“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,” stated US Vice President JD Vance.
“May he be received into the merciful arms of our loving Savior, who suffered and died for Charlie,” Turning Point USA (TPUSA) penned. “We ask that everyone keep his family and loved ones in your prayers.”
Even leftist self-proclaimed “Catholic” former US leader Joe Biden stated:
“There is no place in our country for this kind of violence. It must end now. Jill and I are praying for Charlie Kirk’s family and loved ones.”
Certainly, Kirk, a college dropout, was blessed from above with an extraordinary gift of the gab, building TPUSA into a cross-continental movement, igniting young conservatives for what he viewed as a fight to defend Christian and patriotic values against the anti-life forces of globalism. Debating hardcore activists from the Left on university campuses across the US was arguably Kirk’s forte, as he tried to instil in his audiences a love of God, country, and family. Like him or not, Kirk’s influence stretched far and wide, and Kirk’s message resonated with many Catholics, as it promoted the sanctity of human life and marriage, as well as the battle facing the traditional family.
In fact, following Kirk’s death, the group “Catholics for Catholics” in Arizona organized a rosary vigil for the repose of his soul.
“Charlie Kirk’s local Catholic community gathers to pray the Rosary for the Eternal Rest of his soul,” the group posted on Instagram.
While I did not necessarily agree with all of Kirk’s political views, I found myself, together with many other Catholics, praying hard for him to survive the assassination attempt. However, God had other plans for Kirk. Soon, I found myself praying for the salvation of Kirk’s soul.
Upon learning of his passing, two main thoughts raced through my mind.
“Did Kirk manage to save his soul?”
“What were his final thoughts as he slipped into eternity?”
While I may never know the answer to these questions on this side of eternity, I can find some reassurance that Kirk, towards the end of his sojourn on Earth, displayed an openness to Catholic doctrine, especially about the Blessed Virgin Mary.
During a recent episode on his very own show, the eponymous “The Charlie Kirk Show”, Kirk reaffirmed the special importance of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Christianity.
“I think we as Protestant evangelicals under-venerate Mary. She was very important. She was a vessel for our Lord and Savior,” Kirk declared. “I think that as evangelicals and Protestants, we’ve over-corrected. We don’t talk about Mary enough. We don’t venerate her enough.”
“Mary was clearly important to early Christians,” he elaborated, in statements quoted by LifeSiteNews.
“There’s something there. In fact, one of the ways I believe we fix toxic feminism in America is, Mary is the solution,” Kirk proclaimed.
“Have more young ladies be pious, be reverent, be full of faith, slow to anger, slow to words at times. She’s a phenomenal example, and I think a counter to so much of the toxicity of feminism in the modern era.”
Admittedly, Kirk’s statements on the Blessed Virgin Mary reflected traditional Catholic Marian doctrines, such as Our Lady’s unique and essential role in salvation history and the importance of Marian devotion (hyperdulia). Kirk’s increasing recognition of Our Lady’s importance mirrored a wider trend among some Protestants who have started recalibrating the Marian devotion of the early Church. Why, even the heretic Martin Luther retained a strong devotion to Mary Immaculate despite tearing Christendom asunder!
Furthermore, in comments to political commentator Tucker Carlson, Kirk also acknowledged that young men are drawn to the Catholic Church because they “want something that is ancient and that is beautiful”.
“They want something that is ancient and that is beautiful. Something that has stood the test of time, something that’s not going to change, something that’s all of a sudden not going to all of a sudden just flip around and have some sort of… ‘transgender story hour’.”
“So that’s a really positive trend,” Kirk stated.
Additionally, if I were to single out one of my favorite aspects regarding the legacy Kirk left behind, it would be how Kirk encouraged young men to attend church instead of viewing pornography and smoking marijuana.
In short, Kirk tried to exhort America’s men, and men in general, to embrace their God-given masculine attributes to live out their vocations, and to defend their family and country.
Political commentator Alex Newman had this to say in a tribute to Kirk on The Liberty Sentinel:
“We need more MEN like Charlie—men who love Jesus, love their wives, lead their families, stand for truth, and are willing to put their own lives on the line for the sake of God and what’s right.”
Although I never had the chance to meet Kirk in person, I know enough of him (via his widespread social media presence) that he was, despite his flaws, trying to be a God-fearing and courageous man who loved his family, his country, and most importantly, his God.
In a X post dated August 17, 2025, weeks before his death, Kirk said:
“It’s all about Jesus.”
Indeed, Kirk knew that the point about his political activism, his patriotism, his love for his family, was ultimately about the One who created him – none other than Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
With that truth in mind, let us all re-double our prayers for the repose of Kirk’s soul, and for the welfare of his bereaved family. Also, because the Blessed Virgin Mary, our most Merciful Mother, never lets any honor attributed to Her (that ultimately redounds to God) go unrewarded, we can have great confidence that Our Lady was interceding for Kirk in the most decisive final moments of his mortal life, as he slipped from this world into the next to meet his Judge and Savior.
Thank you, Charlie, for reminding us that life is, and should be, “all about Jesus”.
Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.
