Cardinal Burke on Extraordinary Consistory and Papal Workload

Cardinal Raymond Burke has said he welcomed the opportunity for cardinals to meet each other, get to know one another and express their concerns about the Church at the January 7-8 extraordinary consistory.

It was a “great benefit” he said, adding that he was pleased that Pope Leo XIV plans to host more such meetings in the future, with the next consistory set for June 27-28.

In this January 11 video interview with The College of Cardinals Report, His Eminence also discusses how the meeting format could be improved, the disadvantages of the small-group approach as compared with the classical structure of an extraordinary consistory, and one of the issues raised at the meeting: concern that the Pope is being given too many activities and meetings, drawing him away from his most essential obligations.
