We, the Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church, gathered in General Congregation before the start of the Conclave, note with regret that no progress has been made to promote peace processes in Ukraine, the Middle East, and many other parts of the world; rather, attacks have intensified, particularly against civilian populations. We issue a heartfelt appeal to all parties involved to achieve a permanent ceasefire as soon as possible and to negotiate, without preconditions or further delays, the long-desired peace sought by the affected populations and the entire world.
We invite all the faithful to intensify their prayers to the Lord for a just and lasting peace.
