MARTYRED in DACHAU: The Catholic Newspaperman Who Refused to be Silent

In 1933—years before the world knew who Hitler was— a Catholic newspaper publisher in Munich—inspired by a Bavarian mystic—nearly took down Adolf Hitler. His name was Fritz Gerlich and the only thing he vehemently opposed more than Communism was National Socialism.

In 1933—years before the world knew who Hitler was— a Catholic newspaper publisher in Munich—inspired by a Bavarian mystic—nearly took down Adolf Hitler. His name was Fritz Gerlich and the only thing he vehemently opposed more than Communism was National Socialism.

A hero who would not accept the two false political alternatives of his day— Communism on the left and Nazism on the right—Gerlich would not be silent. He refused to go along to get along, even as Hitler was promising to restore the Fatherland and make the downtrodden Germany people proud once again. Gerlich saw through it and holding fast to his Catholic Faith, courageously walked with Christ all the way to the death camp at Dachau, where he was murdered in 1934.
