The Traditional Latin Mass was celebrated in St. Peter’s Basilica on St. Michael’s Altar for today’s feast of St. Michael The Archangel.
This has been the first time the TLM was celebrated in St. Peter’s since Pope Francis canceled it via his controversial motu proprio, Traditionis Custodes.
The next highly-anticipated TLM in St. Peter’s will be celebrated by Cardinal Raymond Burke, and will take place on the Altar of the Chair (the papal altar) on October 25, 2025, to commemorate Pope Benedict’s motu proprio, Summorum Pontificum, which freed the Tridentine rite in 2007 by making known that it had never been abrogated in the first place and that it could be celebrated by all priests should they feel inclined to learn it.
