No Country for Bold Men

As the betrayal in Afghanistan unfolded over the past few gut-wrenching weeks, people from all political persuasions began to demand answers. “Someone has to take responsibility for abandoning Americans to be raped, tortured, enslaved, and murdered by the Taliban,” the country cried out. “The people running the State Department, Pentagon, White House (whoever that mystery person happens to be), and Democrat-media-complex must be held to account.”

As of this writing, however, not a single member of the inner Biden circle has resigned. The “president” himself—in an interview with ABC “journalist” and lifelong Clintonworld fixer George Stephanopoulos—brazenly denied any responsibility for the bloodbath his administration seemed to have orchestrated, or at least passively allowed. In both word and in deed the “Commander in Chief” spurned the burdens of his office. As the bodies of the slain United States Marines and Navy Corpsman were carried onto American soil at Dover Air Force Base on August 30, Biden checked his watch time and again, too busy to be bothered with honoring the dead.

Our own brass marches along with a crazed Pied Piper of a pontiff who leads the cardinals and bishops down the path of idolatry, apostasy, heresy, atheism, Lutheranism, and, as Archbishop Viganò has laid out at The Remnant and elsewhere, shocking coverups of corruption and endemic sexual abuse.

The breathtaking hollowness of Washington under the American Brezhnev didn’t stop there. Biden’s own personal Vladimir Medinsky, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, went on TV to spin the collapse of Afghanistan into a success story for the Biden regime. Department of Defense Press Secretary John Kirby batted his liquid eyes at the Washington press corps and assured the nation that all was under control.

Secretary of State Tony Blinken, for his part, was apparently in the Hamptons as Kabul fell.

The two men most directly responsible for the debacle in Afghanistan, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Mark “White Rage” Milley, issued a press statement on September 1 which begins as follows:

“It's been a busy time for all of us in this department, a proud one and a solemn one, too. We have concluded our historic evacuation operation and ended the last mission of the U.S. war in Afghanistan. America's longest war has come to a close.” (https://www.defense.gov/Newsroom/Transcripts/Transcript/Article/2762169/secretary-of-defense-austin-and-chairman-of-the-joint-chiefs-of-staff-gen-mille/)

“A busy time…” This is, I think you’ll agree, an odd way to describe a suicide bomb plastering the concrete walls of Hamid Karzai Airport with the blood of Americans.

More than one hundred retired generals and admirals have called on this cowardly duo to resign. (https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2021/09/02/130-retired-generals-and-admirals-call-for-biden-administration-resignations-over-afghanistan-withdrawal/ )

The Taliban, meanwhile, furnished with a list of names provided to it by the Secretary of State, is going door to door hunting down everyone whom Austin and Milley left behind during their “historic evacuation operation”.

Long before there was Afghanistan, there was St. Gallen... Long before there was Jen Psaki, there was James Martin.

Thanks to the “proud” surrender of the Washington cabal to a horde of unwashed Kalashnikov-draggers—and to “President” Biden’s impeachable order to co-“President” Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan on July 23 to “project a different picture” about the war-torn country “whether it is true or not”—the Potomac Jihadists’ adventure in Central Asia “has come to a close”. (https://freebeacon.com/national-security/biden-urged-afghan-president-to-change-perception-of-fight-against-taliban/ )

Americans have watched aghast as their military and political leaders have sold out to the Taliban and to the Chinese and Russian power-players which now control them. They have watched in further disbelief and horror as those same leaders lied about what happened, lied obviously and shamelessly.

Even the Democrat-media-complex was compelled to mouth mild critiques of their handlers in Washington. Things got so bad that MSNBC turned on Biden for a day. And yet, nobody in the upper echelons broke ranks. Not a single time-server in Washington with a star on his epaulets or a Vanity Fair cover on her resume resigned. Everyone doubled down, strangled their conscience, and chose their pension, their position, and their outstanding dental plan and ongoing access to the federal feeding trough over duty, honor, and homeland.

This is no country for bold men.

Or so it would seem.

In a viral video posted on August 26, United States Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Scheller excoriated the brass and the Washington establishment for their lies. He demanded accountability. He asked whether anyone “threw their rank on the table” and protested that the withdrawal from Afghanistan was going badly, or insisted that someone take responsibility for the disaster when it had become clear what was unfolding.

LtCol Scheller was relieved of his command in less than one day. Washington now has no greater enemy than a patriot telling the truth. But what Americans have seen this past week cannot be unseen. One man with honor stood up to an entire rotten system, and won. The contrast was undeniable.

As I watched LtCol Scheller’s initial video, and then the next one he posted in which he vowed to bring the system down which had failed his comrades, I swelled with recognition of a true man. How rare such are today. Scheller’s chessboard in his follow-up video says it all: it’s the Trompowsky Attack, which is an all-in gambit. “You win, or you die.” (https://citizenfreepress.com/breaking/lt-col-stuart-scheller-secret-message-on-chess-board/)

The Bishop of Rome himself has tried convincing the faithful to take a satanic “vaccine” witches’ brew made of aborted babies.

Scheller could have been set for life. He could have milked the “system” and ridden out his retirement like all the brass. He could easily have turned his backs on his fallen Marine Corps brothers and sisters and kept his mouth shut to make promotion. But he didn’t. He laid everything on the line—he “threw his rank on the table”—and told the truth regardless of what that would cost him.

In other words, Stuart Scheller did what so many Catholic priests do every day. More and more as time goes on, in fact.

Long before the Washington devils were exposed as craven blackguards in Afghanistan, our own Catholic leadership has been transparently treacherous and corrupt.

Archbishop Viganò will be remembered throughout history as one of the greatest saints, the Thomas More of our wretched age.

Long before there was Afghanistan, there was St. Gallen. And still the charade of “the hermeneutic of continuity” gets stretched out, like toffee between two hands.

Long before there was Jake Sullivan, there was Bishop Barron. Long before there was Jen Psaki, there was James Martin.

The Catholic Church is not the Marine Corps, to be sure. Generals have enormous power and wear what historian John Keegan has called “the mask of command,” inspiring (or intimidating) those in the lower ranks to do as they are told. But generals do not have access to infallibility like popes do. Nor can generals compel obedience on pain of sin. Pain, yes, for those who disobey. I have known poor souls who have been in a Marine Corps brig and I am told that it is far from pleasant. Plenty of pain, but not the pain of sin.

And before all of these bold men there was Archbishop Lefebvre. Without his example, without his lead, where would we be now?

Obedience in the Catholic Church is another matter entirely. Catholics, too, of course retain freedom of conscience. No one may follow an illicit order, even from Rome. But it is an infinitely graver matter to break ranks in the Church hierarchy.

Imagine the bravery, then, and the depths of prayerful trust in God, when a priest decides that God’s will must be done, and not the will of mortal men.

Over the past two years of mass COVID psychosis—as bishops around the world have closed churches (in wanton disregard of their mission to preach the Gospel at the risk of their own lives if necessary), and as the Bishop of Rome himself has tried convincing the faithful to take a satanic “vaccine” witches’ brew made of aborted babies—parish priests have refused to obey. Heroic men in Roman collars have “thrown their rank on the table” to do what they promised God they would—bring the sacraments to His people, no matter what the cost.

Catholic “brass,” too, have spoken out. Archbishop Viganò will be remembered throughout history as one of the greatest saints, the Thomas More of our wretched age who was God’s servant first, despite enormous pressure to conform that would have broken lesser men. The great Cardinal Burke, too, and the lion-hearted Cardinal Zen, and, in his own quiet way, the deep-souled Cardinal Sarah, and the fearless Archbishop Schneider—all of these men have acted as men should. They have stood up and said, “I will not do evil to please the crowd.”

Pilate gave the masses Jesus over Barabbas. The weak will always kneel before the crazed.

Limp-wristed cardinals forbid the St. Michael Prayer and the Vatican is silent.

Not Cardinal Zen. Not Archbishop Viganò. Not the “parking lot priest”. The thumbscrews got turned hard these past two years, and we have been able to see that real men have outlasted. Masculinity, it turns out, is not toxic at all. It is an abiding grace in Holy Mother Church. Masculinity is the reason we have any Masses at all today.

And before all of these bold men there was Archbishop Lefebvre. Without his example, without his lead, where would we be now? God gave that one man the stoutness of an oaken door, such that the onrush of a demonic century could not bend him back. In holy defiance that solitary hero held the line, and now, thanks be to God, we the remnant have refuge from the horrors of the endgame of Vatican II and the downfall of a demonic Potomac Empire.

In an uncanny convergence, the fates of the Potomac Empire and the Vatican II Newchurch Regime are aligning. Biden and Francis are exposed as frauds together. Washington and Rome stand humiliated—but still spinning lies—on the world stage.

We might have thought that ours was no country for bold men. Generals hide from their enemies. Government leaders cower in their basements. Strumpet-like prelates call the faithful into the trap of the LGBT lifestyle and the pope applauds. Limp-wristed cardinals forbid the St. Michael Prayer and the Vatican is silent.

But stop here for a moment and think about it. No wonder the feminized Newchurch hates St. Michael so much. In the twilight of Newchurch, no wonder the false Churchmen lash out at the angel. He, too, trusted in God and threw his rank on the table. “No one is like unto the Most High,” St. Michael shouted—but not on his own authority, but in his lowliness. In his surrender to God’s greatness St. Michael triumphed. Newchurch—and Washington, too—have no honor left, no capacity for sacrifice. In their power they are weak. In their pride they blind themselves to their infamy.

“This is no country for bold men,” I have thought many times recently. I was wrong. Lieutenant Colonel Scheller’s electrifying courage shook me out of my funk. We have had bold men among us all along. Whether in camouflage or priestly black, our country and our Church abound in bold men.

Now is the hour when they begin to turn the tide.
