A Tale of Two Popes
Pope Francis: We feel that we must disagree with those prophets of doom who are always forecasting disaster, as though the end of the world were at hand.” Evangelii Gaudium (quoting John XXIII).

Pope Francis:
“Doomsday predictions can no longer be met with irony or disdain.” Laudato si.

How does one reconcile these two statements? It is really quite simple: With John XXIII, Francis rejects traditional Catholic “prophecies of doom,” including those of a long line of pre-Vatican II Popes who warned about the dire consequences of the world’s apostasy. But he accepts liberal prophecies of doom, including those of his atheist, pro-abortion advisers on “climate change.”
