Many others have also observed that we find ourselves in the midst of a spiritual war in which the two sides have never been more clearly delineated. The war is not new, of course, but the current phase is arguably more obvious and all-encompassing than ever. At this point, no rational person can remain truly neutral because Satan conscripts those who wish to remain “uncommitted” to fight for his army, whether they realize it or not.
Given our predominantly defensive posture in this phase of the battle, it is not surprising to see which side has suffered the most damage.
When we combine these two concepts — that the enemies are waging a “Total War” against us and that the war is spiritual in nature — we can recognize our current crisis as that described by Sister Lucia (the oldest Fatima seer) in her 1957 interview with Fr. Augustin Fuentes:
“[The Blessed Virgin Mary] told me that the devil is in the mood for engaging a decisive battle against the Virgin. And a decisive battle is the final battle where one side will be victorious and the other side will suffer defeat.”
As with Dr. Rao’s description of our current crisis, the Blessed Virgin Mary indicated that the devil would initiate the decisive battle. And indeed the devil and his army ambushed us with the Covid pandemic of fear and hysteria. Most of us are still looking for places to take cover.
Given our predominantly defensive posture in this phase of the battle, it is not surprising to see which side has suffered the most damage. With the caveat that only God can see one of the most important indicators of the war’s progress — the state of individual souls — we cannot mistake the fact that the Axis of Evil has handily won most skirmishes thus far and appears poised to continue their domination. Even when they allow us a small victory, such as the ability to remove our masks of submission, we sense these snakes are poised to squeeze even tighter once we exhale.
Even worse, they are fighting like they want to win and, for the most part, we are not.
Even worse, they are fighting like they want to win and, for the most part, we are not. Their leader, Satan, has apparently given detailed battle plans to his generals, and they execute them with a demonic ferocity. Gates, Fauci, Biden, Schwab, Soros, Francis, Macron, Trudeau, Pelosi, etc. — in any properly functioning society they would all be locked away for their crimes against humanity, but they believe that they will eventually crush all opposition if they can simply stay on course.
Keeping in mind that this is a spiritual battle, how have we increased our “war efforts” since 2019? Tridentine Masses may be more full on Sundays in some parishes but, other than that, would we be able to tell that we are in the midst of the “decisive battle with the devil” from the way faithful Catholics have reacted since 2019? Certainly we hold fast to the Faith to save our souls, but is there any real sense in which we have intensified our fight for the Faith since 2019?
As a frame of reference, we can consider the dedication with which so many sports fans support their teams. Are we as dedicated to seeing the Mystical Body of Christ triumph over the Axis of Evil as the average NFL fan is dedicated to seeing his team prevail? So many fans devote their time, money, and passions to their chosen teams, often appearing to care more than the players themselves about who wins.
Unlike a sports franchise which cares about its fans only insofar as they are paying customers, Christ died on the Cross so that we might share in His Victory.
If spectators to a meaningless spectacle have so much devotion, is it odd that participants in a decisive battle for their souls and the Church would remain relatively indifferent to the conflict? Unlike a sports franchise which cares about its fans only insofar as they are paying customers, Christ died on the Cross so that we might share in His Victory. The most rational Christians (otherwise known as saints) have always realized that they should give everything to Christ in return. In times of intense crisis, all Christians should come to this realization.
Crucially, though, the Axis of Evil’s greatest preparation for this decisive battle has been to ensure that most Catholics avoid fighting to win. They may tolerate Catholics who wish to save their own souls but they do all they can to keep us from deploying the spiritual weapons that will crush them. In the decades since Vatican II, they have deadened our Catholic instincts so much that we do not realize that now is the time to give everything we have to fight for the reign of Christ the King. This is why events such as the Chartres Pilgrimage and Catholic Identity Conference are so vital today — they rekindle the flame that reminds us that we are soldiers of Christ.
Just consider how effective the enemy has been in rallying its troops to support the most inane measures of the Covid response. Have our generals even attempted to rally the Mystical Body of Christ to devote the same energy in fighting for the Faith? Their lack of leadership leaves so many of us thinking that we have no role in this battle other than to try to stay in the state of grace.
Are we waiting for matters to “get really bad” before we decide to give everything we have to fight for Christ? That is what Satan and his Axis of Evil want us to do.
But how do we think the saints would react to this crisis? If they knew they had to become saints — giving everything to God — in times of relative peace, what would they do in this most dire moment in the history of the Church?
As we can tell from her interview with Fr. Fuentes, Sister Lucia already recognized that our shepherds would not call for us to fight as we should:
“Father, we should not wait for the call of the Holy Father to do penance. Nor should we wait for the call to penance to come from our bishops in our diocese, nor from the religious congregations. No! Our Lord has already very often used these means and the world has paid no attention. That is why now, it is necessary for each one of us to begin to reform himself spiritually. Each person must not only save his own soul but also all the souls God has placed in our path.”
Even then, before Vatican II, she saw that souls would need to pick up the spiritual weapons themselves, even if their bishops and priests did not call for them to do so. In one sense, we could view the escalating crisis since Vatican II as God’s ever louder call for us to reform ourselves. Perhaps we would be more likely to hear God’s call if not for the deafening silence of our shepherds.
Dear faithful Bishops and priests, please lead us to be the saints needed for Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart to triumph!
With Francis’s attempted consecration of “Russia and Ukraine,” most of us have thought more about the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. For the most part, though, we act as though we will be the happy spectators to that triumph, such that we simply need to remain in the stands long enough to enjoy the victory. God can certainly intervene whenever He chooses, even if Catholics remain indifferent, but does that scenario fit with anything we know about the Faith? Does it not seem much more likely that the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary will coincide with Catholics deciding to finally step onto the field of battle with the spiritual weapons that God has given us?
Are we waiting for matters to “get really bad” before we decide to give everything we have to fight for Christ? That is what Satan and his Axis of Evil want us to do. Is there any mystery in what God and His saints want us to do instead? Dear faithful Bishops and priests, please lead us to be the saints needed for Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart to triumph!
Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us! St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle!
