Bishop Cancels TLM at FUS

Bishop Jeffrey Monforton of the Diocese of Steubenville, Ohio, ordered an immediate end to the Latin Mass on Franciscan University’s (FUS) campus.

Why? FUS was already in compliance with Traditionis Custodes. The TLM was being offered only once a month, and the FUS chapel is NOT a parochial church. So why is the TLM being canceled, and why is the bishop pretending to be "just following orders"?

It's not as if he doesn't already have plenty of problems in his dwindling diocese: Vocations are drying up, there's been a 45% decline in Mass attendance over the past 25 years, and there are only a handful of active priests left, half of whom are over sixty.

Bishop Monforton himself asked Crux magazine a few years ago: "If our numbers keep declining to a point of 10 years from now, can we even exist?" Probably not, Excellency, especially not when you crack down on the fastest growing community of young Catholics in the world.

So why is he so eager to cancel the Latin Mass at Franciscan University? Kind of prompts the question: Are these people stupid, or is someone ordering them to sabotage their own Church?
