Two days ago, a female journalist asked the Pope how he reacted to the recent Open Letter accusing him of heresy.

His Humble Holiness responded: "With humor, my daughter," adding most condescendingly, "I also pray for them because they are wrong and poor people, some are manipulated. And who are those who signed...?"

"Who are those who signed?" They are your children, Holiness, whose souls should be your first responsibility.

I say "should be" because Francis evidently doesn't see it that way. He's above it! He hears credible accusations from competent sources and his heart overflows with sarcastic fellowship.

He laughs at them because it's hilarious, apparently, that a group of academics and clerics have placed their careers on the line because his pontificate has them at the end of their ropes.

The sheep are scandalized to the point of tears, and the shepherd mockingly asks: 

(If you look very closely, you'll notice that's not actually Pope Francis. But I see why one might get confused.)

Give us a break, Holiness, please. Your humble pope shtick is getting old and tired, as the mob boss papal politician that you are reveals itself in all of its astronomical arrogance. 

The tone Francis has here adopted strikes us less as that of the reasoned reaction of a responsible father and more like that of an impossibly insecure man whose ego simply cannot handle criticism.

Unfortunately, the choice is his, but his sheep are deserting this negligent and prideful shepherd in droves. They evidently smell the wolf under the shepherd's clothing.  Or perhaps they've just spied the telltale black sneakers where the shoes of the Fisherman are supposed to be.

Either way, the crowing of the cock is echoing all over as Peter tells the New World Order, "I don't know the Man signers."

In the April 30^th issue of The Remnant Newspaper, the week after Notre Dame burned and amid rumors of coming glass roofs and “modernists monstrosities”, Michael Matt wrote the following:

Those who’ve walked the Pilgrimage to Chartres, France, know how difficult it is to take even a few steps more, once they finally arrive in the old City of Chartres.  And yet just a short distance from Notre-Dame de Chartres is a place that for Catholics is well worth the effort.

It is the tomb of Fr. Franz Stock, a German priest who died alone in a Parisian hospital in February 1948, not yet forty-four years old, having run his frail body ragged in the service of French and German Catholics—Allied and Axis alike—during World War II.

During Easter week, a bill was passed which beggars belief.  Minnesota House Democrats voted in favor of teaching pornography and sexual perversion as part of the Minnesota House Education Omnibus Bill, HF2400, the offending section of which is a two-page mandate requiring “Sexual Health Education” curriculum, also known as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE). 

Simply put, CSE is pornographic. And by "pornographic" I don't mean in the hyperbolic sense of an exaggerated description of something which maybe a few Mormon or Fundamentalist Christian groups might find offensive.  No, this is the real thing, i.e., sketched images of men and women engaging in what back in the 1980's was known as "kinky sex"-- what civilized people (if they mentioned it at all) would have called perversion, a word which no longer seems to phase anyone. 

But if teaching 4th grade kids the ins and outs of sodomy does not rise to the level of perversion, then quite obviously "perversion" has no meaning. 

Monday began for most of us just like it always does. I was late for work, again. Dashed out, forgetting breakfast and to brush my hair, but the kids I teach didn’t seem to notice (or if they did, were cute enough to let it slide). It wasn’t until I was pulling back into my driveway that I got the text.

There were flowers in the window boxes, birdcages and a beautiful road lined with trees. Himmler would show it to the international Red Cross to prove he was treating the prisoners well.

The silent demonstration was a powerful witness against the Vatican’s current program of silence and obfuscation in the face of one of the largest coverup/abuse scandals in the Church’s history.

Called “In Silence to Break Down the Wall of Silence,” the demonstration was organized to urge the bishops attending the Vatican’s summit on the problem of child abuse in the Church, which opens on Thursday, not to limit the discussion to pedophilia, but to speak up about all the moral issues at stake, and especially about “the scourge of homosexuality.”

As explained by fliers given out while the demonstrators stood silently praying the Rosary and meditating on religious texts, the participants were lay Catholics who had come from various parts of the world to urge “the silent bishops” to “dare to speak the truth to the Holy Father.”

“If the summit limits itself to addressing only the abuse of minors, as its title would seem to indicate, it is bound to be a failure,” said Professor Roberto de Mattei, president of the Lepanto Foundation. “To limit the scandal to pedophilia alone, while ignoring the scourge of homosexuality, would be hypocritical, because homosexuality is not only a vice contrary to human nature, it also represents the basis of a power structure within the Church.”

Silence fell on a central piazza in downtown Rome at 2pm yesterday when Catholic men and women of various ages and nationalities stood in lines for an hour, reading devotional texts and praying the Rosary. 

Organized by lay faithful belonging to various Catholic associations, passersby looked curiously at the scene while police officers guarded the square.      

On the edges of the piazza, helpers handed out leaflets headed with the words: “In Silence to Break Down the Wall of Silence!”

REMNANT COMMENT: To have one of the most objective (and respected) Catholic journalists in the English-speaking world be willing to give fair and balanced coverage of this admittedly controversial event offers testimony to a job well done by the organizers of this lay Catholic demonstration in Rome. Clearly, this was not a “traditional Catholic” event per se, but rather an eleventh-hour intervention on the part of lay Catholics from many different camps who have only the best interests of Holy Mother Church in mind.

Status Update: I’m about to rip on social media.

But before I begin, let me take a selfie so you all can visualize my angst…

Katherine Hepburn, right? I know, I get that all the time. Or is it Audrey… I don’t know. But you know what, who cares? It’s some person who didn’t know Snapchat from Snapdragon, and so must have been culturally irrelevant.  She didn’t have a Facebook page, much less an iPhone, so we don’t even know what her coffee drinks looked like, much less if she was any good at hiking and yoga and swimming and tanning and hashtags and Instagram and hanging with her girlfriends. LOSER.

But, seriously, whatever happened to bragging being bad form? We’re all human. We like it when people notice. But when you have to tell them to notice—get right up in their faces and demand it--isn’t that just a little awkward?
