Open Letter to Archbishop of Atlanta on the LGBTQ Scandal at Immaculate Conception Shrine

Your Excellency,

I ask you to stop the scandal being given by personnel at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Atlanta (cf. can. 212 §2-3). Two men are being given positions of prominence who claim to be women and are being addressed by incorrect names/pronouns.

At Holy Mass, the only persons who are supposed to be serving at the altar are those who are known for their good morals and fidelity to the Church’s Magisterium (cf. Redemptionis Sacramentum 46). The only persons to be admitted to baptism are those who have been tested in the Christian life during their preparation (cf. can. 865). Baptism sponsors are supposed to lead a life of faith (cf. can, 874 §1, 3°).

The Shine is giving the impression to observers (including many priests) that it is morally acceptable for a man to obstinately reject his God-given sex, demand to be treated as a woman, and to have self-mutilation surgery. Further, the Shrine is leading observers to conclude that it is morally acceptable to speak to a gender confused man in ways that affirm he is a woman.

Attached are examples where one of these men is publicly bragging about he is being supported by the other man when he gets self-mutilation surgery (breast implants). Both men are repeatedly altar servers at Mass. One, in the presence of many diocesean priests, was standing behind Cardinal Gregory swinging the thurible with incense during the Eucharistic prayer and had led the procession. The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception had a banner at a LGBTQ pride parade and these two men, presenting as women, were carrying the banner. The Shrine’s banner also publicized the Fortunate & Faithful Families group which shows it has the “approval and support of the Archbishop of Atlanta” (cf. who we are”).

Thank you for your consideration,
