RTV Covers Vatican Sex Abuse Summit in Rome
Remnant TV was in Rome this past week covering the Vatican’s clerical sexual abuse summit on the “protection of minors”. It seemed a dismal assignment, to be sure, but the reason it was necessary for The Remnant to be in the Eternal City was so we could throw in with our traditional Catholic allies in Rome who’d organized an act of formal resistance to the Vatican sham summit.
Going in, we all knew that the ultimate goal of the summit was to establish child abuse—not rampant homosexuality in the priesthood—as the main cause of a crisis in the Catholic Church which now rivals that of the Protestant Revolt. Donald Trump, it turns out, is not very good at impressions -- but that could be his alibi against persistent accusations that he mocked a reporter's disability last fall.
Trump’s spastic arm waving at a rally last November while mimicking New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski drew swift condemnation from opponents who claimed Trump was making light of a disability. It's followed him ever since. The Washington Post gave Trump four Pinocchio’s for his denials, and Hillary Clinton used a clip of the impression in a video released Tuesday slamming Trump.
But a pro-Trump, Catholic website has compiled footage appearing to show Trump has a very limited repertoire of impressions -- which the site points to as "evidence" he wasn't mocking the reporter's disability.

REMNANT COMMENT: In the meantime, Aleteia.com is reporting that Archbishop Chaput is doubling down up there on the Never Trump bandwagon:
In a speech Thursday at the University of Notre Dame, Archbishop Charles J. Chaput called presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton “very bad news for our country.”
Chaput said that since he first voted in 1966, “the major parties have never, at the same time, offered two such deeply flawed candidates.”
He said he believes each candidate is detrimental to the nation in different ways. “One candidate, in the view of a lot of people, is a belligerent demagogue with an impulse-control problem. His eminence fails to mention that Catholics can morally vote for only one of these two choices and, at this stage in the game, should vote for Trump if they care about the unborn or the very religious liberty Chaput came to Notre Dame to speak about.
A spokesman for Catholics4Trump gave us the following statement today:
Chaput acts as if the two candidates are equally bad from a Catholic point of view. This is completely false and contrary to the facts. One promises to appoint pro-life, pro-religious liberty judges. The other openly supports partial-birth abortion and believes religious views on these and other issues must be changed! Chaput is negligent in his moral duty as a Catholic bishop to teach his flock proper Catholic morality regarding voting. Instead of doing this he is implicitly encouraging Catholics to feel justified in voting for Hillary or staying home. This helps ensure America will become openly hostile to Catholicism and Christianity for the foreseeable future.
In other news, LifeNews.com is reporting that Donald Trump has also doubled down...on his pro-life position. He issued a call to make permanent the Hyde Amendment that bans almost all federal taxpayer funding of abortions and is credited with saving the lives of over 1 million Americans from abortion:
Trump's call comes as Hillary Clinton is campaigning in reversing Hyde and forcing Americans to fund free abortions for women with their tax dollars.
Every year, Congress is forced to fight the battle to protect Americans from being forced to pay for abortions with their tax dollars. Democrats annually fight the pro-life budget provision and hope they can eventually reverse it should they take control of both the White House and Congress.
That has led to pro-life groups calling to the adoption of a permanent law putting Hyde in place long-term and making it more difficult for pro-abortion forces to reverse. Today, Trump announced his support for such a law.
The call for banning taxpayer funding of abortions comes in a new letter from Trump. Trump commits to a new policy: “Making the Hyde Amendment permanent law to protect taxpayers from having to pay for abortions.”
“Hillary Clinton’s unwavering commitment to advancing taxpayer-funded abortion on-demand stands in stark contrast to the commitments I’ve made,” Trump writes, “to advance the rights of unborn children and their mothers when elected president.”
Marjorie Dannenfelser of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List praised Trump for calling for banning taxpayer funding of abortions.
“Not only has Mr. Trump doubled down on his three existing commitments to the pro-life movement, he has gone a step further in pledging to protect the Hyde Amendment and the conscience rights of millions of pro-life taxpayers. For a candidate to make additional commitments during a general election is almost unheard of,” Dannenfelser said. READ HERE

Remnant columnist, Father Ladis Cizik, is being taken to task by a few Remnant critics for having preached a sermon last Sunday which was evidently too “rad trad”. The sermon drew a comparison between the terrorists who hijacked Flight 93 on 9/11 and the liturgical terrorists who hijacked the Catholic Church at Vatican II.
Father also points out that the brave passengers who finally downed that plane—rather than allowing it to crash into the White House—could be likened to traditional Catholics who’ve spent the last fifty years trying to frustrate the plans of the “terrorists” destroying the human element of Christ’s Church.

In an hour I will catch a plane for Pittsburgh in order to participate in the Catholic Identity Conference. Alas, I do not have time to write a few words in praise of a very old and dear friend of The Remnant—as well as a pioneer of the Traditional Catholic movement—Father Eugene Dougherty.
Father wrote for The Remnant for many years, and though he has been in ill health and retirement for some time now, he will be so very missed.
A priest of the old school, Father did so much in the Diocese of Pittsburgh and all around the country to 'preserve the old Traditions', which is the name of one of the hymns he wrote years ago.
I'm so happy to announce that God took care of his faithful son, right up until the very end. This morning I received the following note from my friend and Remnant columnist, Father Ladis Cizik:
Father Eugene Dougherty died peacefully in his sleep at 12:39am this morning on the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
"Woman behold Your son." "Son behold your Mother."
Requiescat in pace.
I had given him the Traditional Latin Sacrament of Extreme Unction and the Apostolic Pardon. He was wearing his Brown Scapular.
Going into Chapel to offer a Traditional Latin Requiem Mass for him right now.
Please keep this Holy Priest of God in your prayers.

The man who did so much to preserve the Old Latin Mass and all the Traditions of Holy Mother Church—though persecuted and ostracized for his faithful witness—died firmly in the happy embrace of Christ and Holy Mother Church, having received the Sacraments of the dying on his deathbed and at the hand of a friend and a faithful traditionalist priest who was obviously sent by God to help dear Father Dougherty into the next life. 
Well done, good and faithful servant.
The last time I saw Father was just before the Catholic Identity Conference a year or so ago. We visited him, unannounced in his nursing home, and while we found him in great spirits, he was obviously not in great health. It was the only time in 30 years I ever saw him not wearing black and his Roman collar, and of course he apologized profusely for it, though obviously he was so very sick that it was more than understandable.
In other words, he was a Catholic priest straight through, all day, every day -- until the very end; an alter Christus all the days of his life. We will miss him very much.

And this is to say nothing of the unsettling fact that she is allowing her out-of-control ambition to write checks her body clearly can't cash. She's killing herself right before our eyes, and all for the megalomaniacal satisfaction of getting back into the White House.
Really, Grandma Clinton, it's time to hang it up.
At this point, with the Democratic Party having but one objective—to sacrifice babies, virginity and the family to their god Baal whose worship is rooted in sensuality, ritualistic prostitution, and human sacrifice (Jeremiah 19:5) — a Democratic corpse could run for President and win, thanks to public school indoctrination camps having turned entire generations of voters into de facto worshippers of Baal.
Anyway, if Hillary succeeds in completely wrecking her body as she's succeeded in completely wrecking her soul--and that success will obviously have everything to do with the millions and millions of blood-money dollars being poured into the coffers of her campaign--this guy by default becomes the first 'Catholic' president since JFK:

The silence about Hillary Clinton is deafening. One hears nothing but crickets from the U.S. Bishops and Cardinals about the democratic presidential candidate’s radical pro-abortion stance, but for the banished Cardinal Raymond Burke.
Why are they sitting mute on the sidelines? How could they be conflicted between an abortion laden democratic platform and the most prolife republican platform ever? Seems like an obvious choice for Catholics. After all, St. John Paul II described life as “the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights.” What’s going on?
When in doubt, follow the money. This ecclesial trail is flush with cash.

Phyllis Schlafly, the iconic pro-family activist who rose to fame in the 1970s when she campaigned against the Equal Rights Amendment, has died at age 92, according to the Eagle Forum, the conservative organization she founded.
Schlafly had been an activist since the early Cold War era, but gained national prominence by leading traditional-religious women in the movement against the Equal Rights Amendment. President Reagan praised her campaign against ERA as “brilliant” and called Schalfly “an example to all those who would struggle for an America that is prosperous and free.”
Schlafly rose to national attention in 1964 with her self-published book, "A Choice Not an Echo," that became a manifesto for the far right. The book, which sold three million copies, chronicled the history of the Republican National Convention and is credited for helping conservative Sen. Barry Goldwater of Arizona earn the 1964 GOP nomination.
She went on to become one of the most influential pro-family activists in the 1980s and 1990s, and her support was courted by all GOP presidential candidates. She authored 27 books and thousands of articles.
Founded in 1972, Eagle Forum focuses on pro-family and socially conservative issues and now has an estimated 80,000 members.
Republican candidate Donald Trump praised the conservative activist in a statement released Monday evening.
"Phyllis Schlafly is a conservative icon who led millions to action, reshaped the conservative movement, and fearlessly battled globalism and the 'kingmakers' on behalf of America's workers and families," the statement read. "I was honored to spend time with her during this campaign as she waged one more great battle for national sovereignty."
Schlafly endorsed Trump at a rally in St. Louis in March, and she co-authored a book called "The Conservative Case for Trump" that is being released Tuesday. Trump says he was "honored to spend time with her." READ ARTICLE HERE
REMNANT COMMENT: Phyllis Schlafly was a Catholic, and a faithful one. She was prophetic in so many ways. "The Equal Rights Amendment," she said, "means abortion funding, means homosexual privileges, means whatever else." She was so right so many years ago!
Right up to the very end, she was utterly unafraid to violate the Stalinesque statutes of political correctness: "News flash: One reason a woman gets married," she observed just last year, March 11, 2015, "is to be supported by her husband while caring for her children at home. So long as her husband earns a good income, she doesn't care about the pay gap between them."
And she was one of the last prominent conservatives who didn't shy away from the truth even after it had been rebranded as "hate speech". On the "transgender agenda", for example, here she is back in August of this year: "Anyone with a child knows that children learn about the world through binary options: up or down, hot or cold, big or little, inside or outside, wet or dry, good or bad, boy or girl, man or woman. But the radical feminists, who staff women's studies departments at most colleges, have propagated the idea that we have to get rid of the 'gender binary' along with the expectation of distinct roles for men and women."
And the point of "gay marriage" was, according to the incomparable Phyllis Schlafly, to "wipe out the Christian religion."
I met Mrs. Schlafly only once, after one of her speeches at Georgetown years ago. I'll never forget it, as she stood alone against a largely hostile audience, a frail-looking little woman. Before the speech was over, the powerful Mrs.Schlafly had silenced her hecklers, charmed her audience, and carried the day... right into a standing ovation. It was positively William Wallace at Stirling! I had tears in my eyes as I joined in an ovation that seemed to last an hour that night.
My father knew and respected her very much. There will never be another like her, she will be missed, and America is a less safe place to be now that the matriarch of conservatism--and a voice of sanity in an insane world--has left us.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.
