Vigano crest 2CARLO MARIA VIGANÒ

Archbishop, Apostolic Nuncio

To my venerable Brothers in the Episcopate

In the glorious martyrs, Holy Church gives us an example of heroic virtues to imitate, showing us how the Grace of God assists those who love Him even to the point of facing torments and death. And while the wicked rage in vain against the bodies of the Martyrs in order to afflict their immortal souls, the Saints triumph with Christ precisely in witnessing to the primacy of Incarnate Truth over error, and of Immolated Charity over the seductions of the world. The palm of Martyrdom draws it sap from the wood of the Cross, and the crown of the Martyrs shines with the rays of the Redeeming Sacrifice of Our Lord.

One can imagine a world in which life simply became progressively worse without also becoming increasingly absurd, but such is not the world in which we live today. Our Church and world have gotten astonishingly worse since Francis introduced us to his blasphemous Pachamama in October 2019, and every single wicked development has also involved an aspect of phenomenal absurdity. We do not necessarily hear the demons laughing uproariously, but surely they are.

On the Feast of the Assumption, a hard-left theater-of-the-absurd brochure called “the Atlantic magazine” published an instant classic in anti-Catholic ignorance. The Holy Rosary, the Atlantic informed its readers, is “extremist.” The Atlantic further compared the Holy Rosary to AR-15s. In the original graphic for the piece, the Rosary was depicted as comprising, not beads, but bullet holes.

Little Manny Macron declares that France will have to suffer since the “time of abundance” is over, as he lives up to his reputation as Klaus Schwab’s favorite Young Globalist Leader.

The President of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Vincenzo Paglia, in the course of an interview given to Italian television channel RaiTre on August 26 (here), referred to the infamous Law 194 legalizing abortion as “a pillar of our social life,” scandalizing millions of Italian Catholics who are faithful to the Magisterium and are still mindful of the fiery words of John Paul II against that horrible crime, which in Italy alone has sacrificed over six million innocent children on the altar of selfishness and liberal antichristic ideology.

In the mid-summer heat we marched, as we do every year, to protect unborn life. The ninth annual March for Life in Tokyo was another success.

We marched on July 18, 2022, a holiday in Japan: the third Monday of July here is Marine Day, but in Japanese this is pronounced the same as “day of birth.” Marine Day also always falls close to July 13, the fateful day in 1947 when abortion was decriminalized opening the door to mass murders until today. Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!

The war currently underway in Ukraine—which pits Ukraine as a proxy for the collective West against Russia—is primarily an ideological or religious one, with Russia representing what is left of Christian Europe, and “the West” representing a totalitarian ideology that abhors religion in general and Christianity in particular. This statement may sound strange, given the fact that some Westerners – though fewer every day – still see “the West,” (basically Europe and North America) as Christian, and Russia as Communist, or crypto-Communist. But this is no longer the case, and has not been for some considerable time. In fact, the thirty years that have passed since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Soviet Union, has seen a complete reversal of roles; the collective West is now a totalitarian and aggressively anti-religious power-block that seeks to export its anti-Christian and anti-human ideology onto the rest of the world. And Russia is loathed by the West's ruling elite precisely because it has resisted this process and moreover has gone in the opposite direction: having once been an active proponent of “scientific materialism” and atheism, Russia has reverted to its Orthodox Christian roots and has rolled back the more pernicious policies and attitudes of the Soviet era.

The Atlantic magazine’s recent piece on the Rosary, How Extremist Gun Culture Is Trying to Co-opt the Rosary, garnered considerable attention for its utterly bizarre attack on traditional Catholics:

“Just as the AR-15 rifle has become a sacred object for Christian nationalists in general, the rosary has acquired a militaristic meaning for radical-traditional (or ‘rad trad’) Catholics. On this extremist fringe, rosary beads have been woven into a conspiratorial politics and absolutist gun culture. These armed radical traditionalists have taken up a spiritual notion that the rosary can be a weapon in the fight against evil and turned it into something dangerously literal. . . . The rosary—in these hands—is anything but holy.”

New from Remnant TV...

Michael Matt looks back at Davos two years later.

This video is for anyone who still thinks the Great Reset is just a conspiracy theory, and that this is just another typical election year.

Spread the word, THIS is why everything went to hell in 2020, and why we’re still struggling to get back to the “old normal”.

New from RTV...

In this RTV Short, Michael Matt interviews the director of The Roman Forum, Dr. John Rao, successor of the late, great Dr. Dietrich von Hildebrand. The Roman Forum is an organization dedicated to the broad defense of Catholic doctrine and Catholic culture. It was founded in 1968 in the wake of Humanae vitae by the great philosopher, Professor Dietrich von Hildebrand (1889-1977), whom Pope Pius XII called “the twentieth century Doctor of the Church”.

As Michael Matt highlighted in a recent Remnant Underground, some of the most persuasive thinkers in the secular world (most notably, Tucker Carlson) have started to describe today’s mounting worldwide crisis in terms of a spiritual battle. Such realizations of themselves do not necessarily lead souls to the truth, but they provide opportunities for Catholics to help more people see that the only path out of this crisis is to embrace the immutable Catholic Faith.
